Biography
Armin Hodžić was born on February 10, 1996, in Zagreb, where he attended Dr. Vinko Žganac Primary School. After that, he enrolled in the Dr. Ahmed Smajlović Islamic High School, where he gained important religious education and learned the Arabic language. Upon finishing high school, he decided to pursue studies in political science at the Faculty of Political Science in Zagreb, where he successfully graduated. He then enrolled in a master’s program and completed his thesis on the topic “Bilateral Relations Between the Republic of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina: Open Issues.” In 2021, he also graduated from the prestigious London School of Public Relations.
In addition to his academic career, Hodžić also built a social-political career. In the 2015 minority elections, he became a member of the Council of the Bosniak National Minority of the City of Zagreb as by far the youngest candidate. In 2016, he took on the role of Secretary General of the SDA (Party of Democratic Action) in Croatia, as well as the president of the Zagreb branch of the party. Hodžić made efforts to reform the party, but faced resistance, which led to his departure from the party.
However, this did not hold him back, and in 2018, he assumed the role of president of the Bosniak National Council, which he sought to establish as a respected institution for Bosniaks in the Republic of Croatia. A major success on this path was achieved in May 2019 when Hodžić, with his list composed mostly of young people, convincingly won the minority elections in Zagreb, securing 19 out of 25 seats among five lists and 112 candidates, with a voter turnout of nearly 1,000 people. After that, he continued to introduce innovations in the work and activities of Bosniaks in Croatia, which was manifested in projects such as marking the “Day of Bosniaks” in Croatia, completing the book “Bosniak Memory of the Homeland War,” organizing the “Days of Bosnian-Herzegovinian Culture,” launching the first Bosniak informational portal “noviglas.hr,” starting the printed magazine “Bosna,” organizing a campaign for the 2021 Population Census, and a series of other projects and activities. In the 2023 minority elections, he achieved an unprecedented result, winning all 25 mandates with his list, along with a record number of votes that any individual among the Bosniaks had received in the past 20 years of the Council’s existence.
In 2023, he was elected as the president of the Coordination of Councils and Representatives of National Minorities of the City of Zagreb, becoming the first Bosniak to hold this position in two decades.
In the 2024 parliamentary elections, Hodžić achieved his greatest success to date. In the Electoral district XII, alongside three other candidates, he won a convincing victory with 3,357 votes, securing a four-year mandate in the Croatian Parliament. This made him a representative of five national minorities (Albanian, Bosniak, Montenegrin, Slovenian, and Macedonian).
Thanks to numerous forms of cooperation with Türkiye, with an emphasis on the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency, Hodžić rightfully holds the title of head of the Croatia–Türkiye Parliamentary Friendship Group.
Armin Hodžić has written a respectable number of texts and articles on topics such as foreign policy, electoral systems, and current political situations, with a particular focus on the policies and conditions in the Republic of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Hodžić is proficient in English and has passive knowledge of German. He lives in Zagreb with his wife Anisa, with whom he has one child.
